The American Airlines terminal at Miami Airport (MIA) is the North Terminal (Concourse D). All American and American Eagle flights, departures and arrivals, use Concourse D, so check-in, security, gates and baggage claim are all on the North Terminal side. Miami is one of American's busiest hubs and its main gateway to Latin America, so Concourse D is busy: this guide gets you through it fast. Current for 2026.

Check-in and bag drop
Check in for American on Level 2 (Departures) of the North Terminal, where you will find staffed counters, self-service kiosks and bag drop. Priority check-in is available for First, Business and eligible AAdvantage elite members. As a rule of thumb, arrive about 2 hours before a domestic flight and 3 hours before an international one, as Concourse D is one of the busiest in the country.
Gates and Concourse D
American uses the full length of Concourse D, gates D1 to D60, a single long pier with roughly 50 gates handling both domestic and international flights. Regional American Eagle flights mostly leave from the D60 gate area at the west end. American is investing around $1 billion in a reimagined Concourse D and a new Gate D60 complex; the project was announced in 2026, with construction expected to start in 2027 and open around 2030. The free MIA Mover and moving walkways help you cover the distance.
Security, Priority and PreCheck
Four security checkpoints serve the North Terminal and Concourse D, three near the ticketing areas and one smaller checkpoint toward the Central Terminal. TSA PreCheck and CLEAR lanes are available, and First, Business and elite passengers can use Priority Security where offered. At peak departure banks, especially mid-morning and evening, give yourself extra time.
Arrivals and baggage claim
American arrivals come into Concourse D, with baggage claim on Level 1. If you are arriving from abroad, you clear passport control and customs (Federal Inspection) first, then collect your bags. For domestic arrivals you go straight to the Level 1 carousels. Rideshare, taxis and the MIA Mover to the rental car center and Metrorail are all reached from the same level.
American Airlines lounges
American's Admirals Club lounges are located in Concourse D, with a Flagship Lounge for eligible international First and Business travellers and top-tier elites. For the full picture of lounges and day-pass options across the airport, see our Miami airport lounges guide.
Getting to and around Concourse D
Concourse D sits in the North Terminal. Coming from the Miami Intermodal Center (rental cars and Metrorail), ride the free MIA Mover to the terminal, then follow signs to the North Terminal and Concourse D. For the wider layout and how the three terminals connect, see our Miami airport terminals guide, and our Miami Airport guide for the basics.
Flying a different airline?
Terminals at MIA are split by airline, so it pays to check before you go. See airlines at Miami Airport for which terminal and concourse your carrier uses, or jump to live departures and arrivals.
Terminal, concourse and gate assignments can change, especially during the planned Concourse D works. Confirm with American Airlines or Miami International Airport before you travel. Correct as of 2026.
